A Snuggie Under the Tree This Christmas

As we launch ourselves into the biggest shopping day of the year, one can't help but think of the pop culture phenomena that have ended up under countless trees over the years. Cabbage Patch dolls, Furbies, Tamagotchi, and most recently, The Snuggie. Frankly, the Snuggie is the most useful of these trends, so why not celebrate it...in song! Powerpopaholic's Album Pick for A Casual Friday

Garnering comparisons to They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton, and Doug Powell in the recent Powerpopaholic review, Brian Huber's upcoming album, Imagination of Ourselves, has also been deemed a great listen for casual Fridays. In fact, the exact words from the music blog were, ""A very easy-on-the-ears album for casual Fridays."

Cheeky and introspective, singer/songwriter Brian Huber describes his new album Imagination of Ourselves (due out 12/14) as an effort set to an "organic Britpop feel, without the pretense". Huber produced his latest creation in his own living room. This effort, wrought with emotion, chronicles the artists highs and lows of the past 13 years.

Brian Huber Talks Snuggies and Wookies with Absolute Punk

Brian Huber recently answered a couple of pop culture questions for Absolute Punk. The verdict is that he is very down with Snuggies, Wookies and Candyland. And beer and poker aren't so bad either.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
I think it'd be pretty awesome to tour with Eric Clapton. I'd love to just hang out, jam, pick his brain and maybe write music with him. In college, I watched videos of his concert and studied his playing incessantly. In hindsight, it was kind of creepy but it kept me out of trouble.

5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
I would be a wookie. You can be intimidating, strong, and cuddly, all at the same time!

7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
I think the version of Pachabel's Canon in D that went viral on YouTube would be pretty awesome to play in Guitar Hero. I think it'd be quite hard to get 5 stars and I wouldn't even pretend to try and nail that!

11. What does AP.net mean to you?
Associated Press? Oh Absolute Punk! I do thoroughly enjoy the reviews. It's pretty cool how the album's components are broken down. It beats the hell out of Pitchfork.

12. What is your favorite song to play?
My favorite song of mine to play is "Snuggies". I enjoy the weird smirks on people's faces because they can't decide how to react to it.

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I can gleek, crack numerous bones in my body and I can hold my own in trivial pursuit. I will also destroy you in a game of Candyland. Click Here to Read More..

Brian Huber Helps Feed the “Hungry For Music” as Part of BMI’s Songwriters Showcase

“Hungry for Music,” a grassroots-driven charity dedicated to bringing music into the lives of underprivileged children, will benefit from BMI’s Songwriters’ Showcase at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington DC on October 28th. Brian Huber, whose upbeat and heartfelt songs are a perfect match for this benefit, will perform along with No Second Troy, Shane Hines, and Holly Montgomery. “I'm really looking forward to being a part of this benefit,” says Huber, “Music and playing an instrument has really enriched my life and I hope I can help bring that to others”.

Brian Huber “Snuggies” Up With Release Of Imagination Of Ourselves Nationally On December 14th

WASHINGTON, DC (September 20, 2010) — Brian Huber is the kind of songwriter that can take anything and make it into a compelling, funny, or heartfelt song. Take “Snuggies,” born of a Christmas gift, it’s now a synth-powered catchy ode to the “thermal revolution”. Huber’s first solo album, Imagination of Ourselves, is bubbling over with songs written from little sparks of inspiration: a one-liner at a poker game, a stray thought about being on a desert island, the beauty of Yellowstone. He didn’t twiddle his thumbs or let these ideas go. “I didn’t rely on some muse to ‘hope’ I write a song. I worked hard to write, rewrite and finalize these songs,” says Huber, who’s no stranger to hard work; he wrote, recorded, produced and arranged the album on his laptop. Imagination of Ourselves is due out December 14th.


For Brian Huber, this first album has been hard-won. He spent years in other people’s bands, gaining the confidence he had lacked when he first started his musical career as well as musical and songwriting skills and that ever-elusive ability to live in the now. He liberated ten-year-old songs and himself by taking complete ownership of the production of Imagination of Ourselves. Now he’s always on the lookout for new inspiration, "It's a matter of having your 'antenna' out and if something catches your ear, that you make a note of it,” says Huber, “I have a habit of singing melodies and song ideas into my work voicemail, which tends to be filled most of the time.”

Similar to the poppy swirl of bands like Of Montreal, Huber's music is infectiously catchy without ever dragging, and the focus always remains on themes of liberation, imagination, and most importantly, past and present relationships.
