San Diego Gets Down with Leopold and His Fiction

Indie Rock Reviews attended last week's Leopold and His Fiction show at Bar Pink in San Diego. Lemon Sun shared the stage that night for what sounds like a wicked time. The oh-so-friendly Monti Smith of IRR took a score of awesome, sweaty pictures and posted them for all of us who could not attend the gig.

"Revved up Honky Tonk shoots forth from the amps and mics. Bassist, Micayla Grace bounces barefoot and brazenly from every corner of the small 5 ft x 5 ft area that the three piece inhabits. Daniel falls to his knees as the Detroit fuzz escalates, and Jon brings up the tempo via the drums. A new sound familiar to all causes everyone present to put their hands together and stomp their feet. Once again, the gang has come in and swept a crowd off their feet."

"Leopold and His Fiction have been a favorite of ours over here at IRR for quite awhile. Daniel even did an exclusive Bionic Ear Session with us in which he recorded a song and our very own Travis did some of the Hand Claps. Now you may be thinking to yourself ,”Big deal, I can clap my hands.” And while that’s probably true, can you clap good enough to be recorded? Think about that! Now listen to it here..."

Lost At E Minor recently spread the gospel of Leopold and His Fiction in a highly favorable review. "I could easily compare Leopold and his Fiction to a vintage wine, a vintage car maybe, but they’re more like a rough piece of aged leather, one that’s been soaked and handled accordingly, reconstituted for a modern-day take. Naked Hearts Chats With Absolute Punk About Goats and Snoop Dogg

At the GLG headquarters, we are quite pleased that Absolute Punk seems to have taken a liking to our artists!

Amy Cooper and Noah Wheeler of our favorite 90s-loving fuzz-rock band Naked Hearts answered a list of 20 questions for Absolute Punk. From the funny to the more in-depth, the duo answers such questions as:

If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
Amy: A goat. They live in the most beautiful places. Noah: I would be a three-toed sloth. I want to hang from the trees with my three toes and just chill out.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
Blonde Redhead so we could hear them play every night. Snoop Dogg, for obvious reasons.

Largehearted Boy Offers "Mass Hysteria"

Music blog Largehearted Boy has picked the Naked Heart's to feature in their Daily Downloads. They offer the title track "Mass Hysteria," from the Hearts' forthcoming album, as a free mp3 for all to enjoy.

The Deli wrote a flattering feature for Naked Hearts CD NYC release party at the Mercury Lounge, May 1st.

"Naked Hearts are one of the best kept indie rock secrets of the NYC scene. We accidentally caught this duo at CMJ 2008 while they were playing a day show at Cake Shop upstairs and after witnessing their tightly performed, memorable tunes we felt obliged to blog about them. As it often happens in the rock'n'roll world, things haven't exactly been moving at the speed of light for Naked Hearts since then, but it looks like they are now ready to conquer this city. Naked Hearts Joins The Voice Project

Naked Hearts join in a recent who's who of artists on board with The Voice Project. Who's the who's who? For starters, Mike Mills of REM covering Billy Bragg, Joseph Arthur covering Peter Gabriel, Andrew Bird covering Mass McCombs and Joe Purdy covering REM. And that's just to name a few.

What's the Voice Project?

 From The Voice Project site:"The Voice Project is an attempt to support these incredible women and the peace movement in Uganda, and an effort to see how far a voice can carry.  We have two main goals, to AMPLIFY the message in their songs in order to support the peace movement, and to assist them in their efforts to EMPOWER themselves economically in order to better their lives, create real social change, and to sustain peace.Music and word of mouth, it can end wars, it can change the world. These incredible women have shown us that. Pass it on."

But most importantly, who is the Naked Hearts? Simply the super-cutest boy-girl duo, smartest pop stuck-in-your-head hook writers we've heard in a long time.
