The Motion Sick Play Last Show Before Indefinite Break

This may be your last chance to see Boston indie pop outfit, The Motion Sick live. Their last show before an ominous- sounding “indefinite break” will be at T.T. The Bear’s Place in Cambridge, MA on September 18th. The show will be a part of the Virgo-A-Go-Go Festival and will also feature Three Day Threshold, Kev & Col, Thick As Thieves and Moons, as well as Boston Jack Sparrow and the Virgo A Go-Go Dancers.

The Motion Sick always go that extra mile to make a live show entertaining. There have been superhero costumes. Not too long ago, they played a Boston show entitled “The Rock Primary”, which was promoted by a series of campaign, scandal and faked press videos featuring the all the bands on the bill. Who knows what they have planned this time?

The Motion Sick are known for their combination of pop melody and smart, socially voyeuristic lyrics. Their song “30 Lives,” which contains the famous Konami Code, was featured in the video game Dance Dance Revolution and its video won them accolades including "Blender Breakout,” CMJ's Sonicbids Spotlight, and Spin's Undiscovered Band Worth A Listen. But it’s not all about video games with this band. Kurt Vonnegut is as much an influence as Nick Cave, Bright Eyes and Modest Mouse.

Front man Michael J Epstein has a few other projects he’s involved with, if you need to get your fix. He plays baritone ukulele in Neutral Uke Hotel, whose live performances of Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea have been giving NMH fans something to shout about. The Michael J Epstein Memorial Library, an indie pop/folk group featuring Epstein and nine women debut on September 11th at Café 939. Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, another of Epstein’s musical projects, is inspired by the 60s spy show The Prisoner. Their EP, The New Number 2 features a song each for five of the show’s episodes.

Neon Reverb Festival Welcomes Leopold and His Fiction Back for a Second Time

Though they’re a California band, you’d never know it when Leopold and His Fiction is in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Weekly called them “quite possibly the best thing to come out of this February's Neon Reverb Festival” and Las Vegas CityLife said “The ebullient, vigorous rock opera of San Francisco’s Leopold and His Fiction [is] perhaps the sleeper of the festival thus far.” Perhaps that’s why the Neon Reverb Festival invited them back for their fall event which goes from September 16th through the 18th. Leopold and His Fiction’s live shows are like a magnetic force you can’t resist. "This trio is a trip to watch, boiling and smashing a diverse range of musical genres that is both ethereal and bombastic," said Denise Guerra of the Campus Circle Newspaper about their recent Viper Room show. Charismatic front man Daniel James says of performing live, “We are in our element and want to be nowhere else in the world than on that stage”.

Leopold and his Fiction’s latest single, “Golden Friends” has been described as “...haunting and scratchy, and sounds as if it was conjured up in the backrooms of old Western saloons over whiskey and cigarettes,” by Tympanogram. They’ve been in John Baccigaluppi’s The Hanger with Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart, Little Joy, Vetiver) and this recording ventures out appropriately from the blues structure of the first two records, while engaging start to finish the theatrics and entertainment of voyage fans have become accustomed to hearing.

NEON REVERB is a music festival in Las Vegas, NV, created and organized by local, independent promoters, on a not-for-profit basis, simply for the love of music. The idea is to produce a new twice-annual event (happening every March and September) that helps galvanize Downtown Las Vegas as the center of a thriving and growing music scene. They hope both to build more community among local promoters, venues, and musicians, and to help highlight Las Vegas as a place where bands from around the country (and the world) should come and play! The White Ravens Join Multi-Genre Campfire Festival

The historic Club Passim, which boasts past appearances by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Suzanne Vega, will welcome The White Ravens and their keyboard-driven pop as part its annual Campfire Festival over Labor Day weekend. The White Ravens will be playing Saturday, September 4th at 1:30 PM. The festival will feature 85 musical acts from a myriad of genres spread out over four days.

The Campfire Festival is just one stop on The White Ravens’ first east coast tour. They also have gigs lined up in Philadelphia, New York and Cambridge, MA. Leopold and His Fiction helps Clean Air Clear Stars Festival Plant Trees

San Francisco’s Leopold and His Fiction go green when they join the fourth annual Clean Air Clear Stars Festival line-up on Saturday, September 18th at 3pm. The festival features four days of music including sets by Dead Meadow, Whiskey Biscuit, Sky Parade.


In pursuit of a cleaner environment, Clean Air Clear Stars 2010 have teamed up with The Arbor Day Foundation in a partnership that guarantees five trees planted for every ticket sold.
